urbanites
A group for the young and young at heart. Typically, we meet for dinner and discussion at 6pm on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday of every month, organize monthly outings to various local attractions, and participate in community events. During the pandemic we are meeting via Zoom. Join our Facebook group (EEC Urbanites) or contact us if you'd like to learn more.
Book group
We meet monthly to discuss a wide range of writings. Accidental Saints: Finding God in All the Wrong People was our most recent choice. Other selections have included Mudbound, The Falls, The Help, Lincoln at Gettysburg, Years of Wonder, The Zookeeper’s Wife, and City of Thorns. The Book Group continues to meet via Zoom during the pandemic - check the weekly eNews for information.
Anti-racism Project
This group comes together on a bi-weekly basis to discuss race, racism, and racial justice and reconciliation in the context of our baptismal call to seek and serve Christ in one another. This group formed out of our members' participation in the two-day diocesan workshop "Seeing God in the Face of Each Other" in July, 2016 and is focused on education and action.
In the summer of 2020, as the global pandemic took hold and the streets of our city were filled with voices crying out for racial justice in this country, the Anti-Racism Project renewed its commitment to study and action. Meeting via Zoom, the group drafted an updated document laying out both purposes and actions. Read this exciting new report here, and consider how you can be involved in this life-giving, life-changing work.
A variety of arts and community groups also use Emmanuel as a meeting place or rehearsal space. If you would like to learn more about these groups, or about booking our space, contact our parish office.
