Emmanuel parishioner Kai Abelkis, sustainability manager for the University of Maryland Medical Center, will share his insight on the interconnection between sustainability and the health of local communities. Kai is a sustainability professional with a demonstrated history working in the health care and financial services industries. He’s currently working with a team of visionaries to create an urban food processing facility in Baltimore: Baltimore Grow Co-op will set a groundbreaking precedent for galvanizing urban/rural farmers to reach institutional food programs. He also leads an effort to support community solar gardens in collaboration with local startup WeSolar, an innovative clean energy provider, with the goal of building a 10-megawatt solar garden that would meet our needs and provide opportunities for our community to save on utility bills and the planet.
The program will include archival slides and video, plus the opportunity to ask the Kai questions and to share your own Baltimore experiences. Light refreshments provided.
