Construction Begins - And Everything Changes
Emmanuel is thrilled to be working with Southway Builders. Southway was selected by the Vestry via a competitive process in the early stages of the project and has been a faithful partner all along the way, through design and scope changes, several rounds of pricing estimates, and the ongoing effects of supply chain challenges. You've likely seen their work around the city, including just down Read Street on the Ulysses Hotel project at the corner of Read and N. Charles.
The first stage of construction includes setting up and securing the work area. Southway Builders will erect temporary partitions to block off several areas of the building including the central stairway core on all levels and the Gallery on the lower level. Additionally, a chain link fence will be installed along the sidewalk on the Read Street side of the building and a port-a-potty and dumpster brought to the site. You can expect to see these changes within the first week of so of construction.
Meet (part of) the Team!
Charlie is a Project Engineer and will manage the administrative and logistical details so work can continue uninterrupted.
Roberto is an Assistant Superintendent and will manage the worksite day-to-day, including safety and security controls.
With some areas no longer available for use, everyone visiting Emmanuel, whether for worship, meetings, or other events, will need to be aware of the following:
The single-occupant public restroom in the Narthex (Lobby) of the main church is the only available toilet facility. Please note that there are steps that take you down to the restroom.
The back door of the building (off of the Morton Street alley) cannot be used.
Eccleston Chapel is closed during construction. The 8:30am service will be held in the Choir area of the Main Church.
The Sacristy is only accessible via the side door of the Main Church.
