Worship Styles and Traditions
Worship is a joyful experience at Emmanuel. It is both traditional and contemporary, balancing the best of our glorious past with the vibrancy of the present. People are drawn to Emmanuel Church for a variety of reasons; Many love our worship services filled with words and prayers that have inspired generations; or they come for the compelling and relevant sermons; or are attracted by our renowned music program. Many are enchanted by the beauty and history of our building. Whether you walk to church from your downtown apartment or drive in from elsewhere in the Baltimore metropolitan area, wherever you are in your spiritual journey, you are welcome to worship with us.
Emmanuel is distinctive in that we maintain a Sunday pattern of worship that is shaped by both Morning Prayer and Holy Eucharist.
Our 8:30 a.m. service is always a spoken service of Holy Eucharist held in our beautiful and intimate Eccleston Chapel. Our 10:30 a.m. service is always held in our majestic main sanctuary. On the first Sunday of the month and on major feast days, we have a Choral Service of Holy Eucharist. On other Sundays, we have a Choral Service of Morning Prayer. At our 10:30 a.m. service, we have our extraordinary professional choir, who help lead our worship.
Come and join us! Free Sunday morning parking is available in the PMI lot right next to the church (Read & Charles Sts).

Terry Eagleton on the God DebateTerry Eagleton's book Reason, Faith, and Revolution: Reflections on the God Debate, offers a devasting critique of recent works by Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens (whom he refers to collectively as "Ditchkins"). It is brilliant, provocative, and very, very funny. It is based on his 2008 Terry Lectures delivered at Yale. You can view these lectures on the link below.
