When you come to Emmanuel Church expect your heart and mind to be engaged.  A hallmark of Emmanuel is our commitment to spiritual inquiry - we like to think about our faith.  We like to ask the big questions about God and the search for meaning.  Emmanuel has a tradition of leaders who have studied long and hard, mining centuries of human experience and reflection to help bring purpose and direction to our lives.

We foster a Christian community committed to the unfettered pursuit of truth, engaged in public life, and invigorated by religious and cultural pluralism.   The Episcopal Church at its best seeks to be inclusive, and Emmanuel welcomes and benefits from the diversity of seekers within our community.  Together we seek the truth about God and our world, and about the goals and values that shape our lives.  We listen, we talk and encourage one another to think deeply about our faith. Together we seek to foster a community able to encounter God and dedicated to the service of others.

Terry Eagleton on the God Debate

Terry Eagleton's book Reason, Faith, and Revolution: Reflections on the God Debate, offers a devasting critique of recent works by Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens (whom he refers to collectively as "Ditchkins").  It is brilliant, provocative, and very, very funny.  It is based on his 2008 Terry Lectures delivered at Yale.  You can view these lectures on the link below.
