Arts and Architecture
The people of Emmanuel are by and large lovers of the arts, among many other attributes! Emmanuel’s parish house includes a gallery space with revolving exhibits, changing every four to six weeks. Emmanuel also embraces the performing arts and maintains an artist in residence program. For the past ten years, Opera Vivente has been in residence at Emmanuel, and mounts three productions each year in English.
The Peace Chapel, the Great East Window, the Baptistry, and the nave stained glass windows are all quite amazing and beautiful. Stained glass windows include several by Tiffany and Lafarge. The white marble baptismal font was the work of renowned sculptor Daniel Chester French, perhaps best known for the Lincoln Memorial in Washington. Baptized here in 1896 was Bessie Wallis Warfield, who would become known as the Duchess of Windsor for whom King Edward VIII gave up his throne!

Terry Eagleton on the God DebateTerry Eagleton's book Reason, Faith, and Revolution: Reflections on the God Debate, offers a devasting critique of recent works by Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens (whom he refers to collectively as "Ditchkins"). It is brilliant, provocative, and very, very funny. It is based on his 2008 Terry Lectures delivered at Yale. You can view these lectures on the link below.
